Crypto gaming company Immutable has revealed plans to allow players to bypass transaction fees on its upcoming Immutable zkEVM network, powered by Polygon.
This will be possible through a unique feature that enables game developers to cover the gas fees for players.
Games developed on Immutable zkEVM, a gaming-focused Ethereum scaling network announced earlier, can activate this feature.
This move aims to make it more cost-effective for players to explore new games, potentially removing significant barriers to the wider adoption of blockchain gaming.
Alex Connolly, CTO and Co-Founder at Immutable, emphasized that certain aspects, like gas fees, are considered unacceptable by mainstream players in the blockchain space.
Alex added, “To truly appeal to all gamers, Web3 games must be able to offer players a familiar and streamlined user experience, making the blockchain components as effortless and native as possible.”
Players adopting the upcoming universal gamer profile system, Immutable Passport, will have the advantage of avoiding transaction fees for games supported by their developers.
Immutable has announced its commitment to covering gas fees for all games on its own for a “limited time” once the zkEVM mainnet goes live early next year.
To eliminate gas fees for their games, game studios can deposit funds into a smart contract wallet. This ensures that fees from Passport users are automatically covered without being visible to players.
Immutable is confident that the cost to studios will be minimal compared to the advantages gained.
