The team behind popular memecoin Shiba Inu has launched a decentralized domain name service ‘.shib’ for the SHIB community.
The announcement was shared by D3, which has partnered with Shib to provide Web3-native decentralized domains. D3 is a Web3 domain provider that claims to be issuing interoperable domains between Web3 and Web2.
D3 says that while current domains such as .crypto and .eth are not working natively with internet tools like web browsers and email, ‘.shib’ domain will change this as it will enable interoperability between traditional and Web3 domain name system (DNS).
“We’re developing domains that work in Web2 and Web3,” which can be used for “blockchain & fiat wallet IDs, open authentication credentials, DID, decentralized email, wallet-to-wallet messaging, universal website & browser support, and more,” says D3.
While there is no sharing from the Shiba Inu team regarding the “.shib” announcement, the SHIB price has also not reflected this major update for the Shiba Inu ecosystem. At the time of writing, the SHIB price is down 2% in the past 24 hours, according to Coinmarketcap data.
