Ethereum developers revealed during a biweekly call that the Dencun upgrade might be tested on Goerli’s Testnet on January 17. The development of Dencun was impeded by technical issues that persisted until Q4 of 2023.
Proto-danksharding is an update (EIP-4844) that attempts to reduce layer-2 rollup fees and increase blockchain space for data blobs. By expanding Ethereum’s blockchain’s data storage capacity, this development should increase transaction capacity without increasing gas prices.
The developers want to upgrade Sepolia’s Testnet by January 31 and Holesky’s network by February 7, barring any disruptions and presuming Dencun tests properly on Goerli. The biggest Ethereum test chains are represented by these splits.Â
Though this schedule is susceptible to change based on developments, the end of February was the last soft objective for deploying Dencun to the Mainnet.
With the release of Shapella’s update, engineers enabled withdrawal capabilities for staked Ether (ETH). Dencun is the first significant technological advancement since then.
