In a shocking case, a 23-year-old cryptocurrency miner was kidnapped by three men in the city of Izhevsk, Russia, on December 25th.
The kidnappers, who were part of a gang, forcibly took him from his yard and drove away in a car registered to a retired person.
According to Ren TV, they then contacted the victim’s brother via Telegram, demanding a ransom of 15 million rubles (around $166,000).
If the ransom was not paid, they threatened to plant drugs on the victim and hand him over to the police.
However, the police were able to quickly track down and arrest the kidnappers. The perpetrators, who have a history of robbery and extortion, could face up to 12 years in prison.
