A nonprofit supporting the digital asset sector, Blockchain Association, has responded to Senator Elizabeth Warren’s concerns about government hires in the crypto industry.
In an open letter, CEO Kristin Smith invited collaboration with Warren, who expressed worries about state officials transitioning to crypto roles.
Warren suggested that some crypto entities use former defense and law enforcement personnel to impede regulation.
Smith said, “While Blockchain Association does not currently employ anyone with the credentials listed in your first question, we are fortunate and proud to count many former military, national security, intelligence officers, and law enforcement professionals among our membership.”
In response, Smith emphasized the Association’s pride in its former public servants, highlighting their attraction to the industry for its values of freedom and creativity.
Smith said, After leaving government, these public servants could have chosen from myriad, well-deserved professional opportunities. But they were drawn to work in the emerging digital asset industry because they value freedom and creativity.”
Coin Center CEO Jerry Brito criticized Warren’s letter as a “bullying publicity stunt.” Warren, a vocal critic of digital assets, has advocated for measures against illicit crypto use.
Coinbase also refuted allegations of employing ex-officials to obstruct regulation. The Blockchain Association seeks constructive engagement with Senator Warren on these issues.
