MicroStrategy CEO Michael Saylor is warning Bitcoin holders about an epidemic of sophisticated fake giveaway scams utilizing deepfake technology.
In a recent tweet, Saylor revealed that his security team takes down an average of 80 fraudulent YouTube videos per day depicting him urging viewers to send Bitcoin in exchange for double the amount back.
These videos employ deepfakes, or AI-generated synthetic media, to impersonate Saylor and scam unsuspecting victims out of their Bitcoin holdings.
Saylor is not the only crypto figure targeted by these scams. Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse also recently faced deepfake videos promoting fake XRP giveaways. As deepfake technology becomes more advanced, the potential for its misuse also increases.
The CEO emphasized that there is no risk-free way to double your Bitcoin holdings and urged the crypto community to exercise caution with giveaways and other promotions.
With crypto scams on the rise, experts advise verifying legitimacy before sending funds or sharing personal information.
