The first-phase launch of Anichess, Animoca Brands’ subsidiary creating a decentralized chess game in collaboration with Chess.com, was announced today by the Hong Kong-based Web3 investor.
In a statement released today, Anichess, which is also associated with five-time World Chess Champion Magnus Charlsen, stated that the initial phase of the game involves player-versus-environment gameplay.
The player-versus-player mode will be included in the second phase later in this year’s first quarter, according to the company’s plans.
The business mentioned that users of Anichess can resolve everyday chess puzzles. According to the announcement, players can earn Orbs of Power game assets for in-game usage and unlock new puzzles for additional rewards by finishing daily tasks.
Yat Siu, co-founder and executive chairman of Animoca Brands, said in the announcement that “Anichess revolutionizes the classic royal game by fusing traditional strategy and gameplay with the innovative elements of spellcasting, a fantasy storyline, and Web3 functionality.”
Following a June 2023 seed round in which investors such as GameFi Ventures, The Operating Group, Koda Capital, Bing Ventures, 708 Capital, and Asymmetry Capital contributed $1.5 million, Anichess launched.
