The Stellar Development Foundation has decided to delay the planned Protocol 20 network upgrade originally scheduled for January 30. The move comes after feedback from wallet developers, tool builders, and smart contract developers in the Stellar ecosystem.Â
The cryptocurrency project will disarm validators, preventing them from voting on the scheduled date. The voting procedure will continue after bug fixing. Stellar highlighted the need for broad consensus before introducing significant protocol changes.
A minor bug in the Stellar Core v20.1.0 code could affect services and applications after upgrading to Protocol 20. While the risk was small, the team decided to delay the upgrade and involve all ecosystem participants.
Validators and the community remain responsible for Protocol 20 upgrade decisions. They can either proceed once a quorum is reached or maintain Protocol 19 until further notice.
The Stellar Development Foundation will continue engaging validators during ongoing bug-fixing efforts. The project may plan a new voting date if players decide to defer the upgrade until a bug-free Stellar Core version launches within two weeks.
