Bitcoins are becoming more and more popular but consumption of energy is also increasing.
An estimate by the US EIA has revealed that bitcoin mining eats 2% or probably a whole new state to be added to the electricity grid. This increase, however, has been partly caused by tough China regulations which have pushed miners to the US.
Such demand is being covered by renewing the old, polluting power plants and thus leading to raising two questions one in conscience of increased CO2 emissions into the atmosphere creating preconditions for delayed course toward a climate-neutral grid.Â
