The National Fraud Intelligence Bureau (NFIB), a UK police division focused on collecting data on fraud and financial cybercrime, has shut down 43 web domains associated with fraudulent activities.
Pete O’Doherty, the interim commissioner of the City of London Police, revealed that the NFIB came across a fake email address posing as the crypto platform blockchain.com.
Upon further investigation, they found 42 additional domains, such as “actionfraud.info” and “department-fraud.com,” and promptly blocked them.
The NFIB urges individuals targeted by cybercrimes to promptly report such incidents using their official channels and hotlines. They have announced that, as of December 2023, they have successfully shut down approximately 300,000 harmful websites.
Some websites were discovered to be participating in phishing activities, tricking people with fake promises of winning Tupperware sets.
Phishing continues to be a prevalent issue within the crypto community. Trezor revealed a security breach impacting the data of 66,000 users on January 20. After this incident, at least 41 people reported receiving fake emails designed to steal their sensitive information for accessing their cryptocurrency wallets.
