Nym Technologies has been awarded a grant from the ZCash Community Grants program, allowing them to expand the privacy protection features of the Nym mixnet to the Zcash network.
The integration will require embedding Nym’s mixnet into the light client libraries developed by the Electric Coin Company (ECC). This enables developers crafting Zcash wallets to opt for activating the mixnet’s privacy features.
Nym’s mixnet stands out from other privacy tools because it stops enemies from tracking the hidden details in online interactions. This is achieved by encrypting data into Sphinx packets and routing them through multiple mix nodes across the globe, while also introducing dummy traffic to complicate patterns.
Both Nym and Zcash share a commitment to prioritize privacy for all users. While Zcash has made notable advancements with zero-knowledge proofs, vulnerabilities remain at the network layer.
The blog stated, “Powerful adversaries can analyze traffic patterns such as the stream of TCP/IP packets used to submit transactions, which can then be used to de-anonymize users. ISPs can snoop on traffic patterns to passively record Zcash activity.”
The expanding crypto surveillance sector can also spy on peer-to-peer traffic and launch active attacks. Even advanced privacy measures, such as Zcash’s auto-shielding feature, can be compromised at the network level.
