A 23-year-old crypto enthusiast is planning to climb Mount Everest and plant a Bitcoin flag at the summit to promote financial literacy worldwide.
Dadvan Yousuf revealed his plans in a February 28 social media post, stating he intends to hike Everest sometime between April and May this year. He purchased his first Bitcoin back in 2011 and has substantially grown his crypto investments since.
Yousuf was born in Iraq but now runs a business based in Dubai. His reported net worth exceeds $300 million.
The climber says he will pack out all trash and equipment to minimize his impact on Everest’s environment. He aims to highlight the “global disparity in access to financial education” by showcasing the flag.
Overtourism and trash have become major problems on Everest in recent years. Yousuf is committed to preserving the mountain’s pristine environment.
Other crypto climbers have tried similar publicity stunts on major peaks to raise awareness. In 2018, some climbers attempted to place a crypto wallet at the Everest summit.
