Blockchain scaling startup StarkWare has open-sourced Stwo, a zero-knowledge (ZK) prover designed to reduce user latency and costs. Built on StarkWare’s Circle Stark protocol developed with Polygon, Stwo will generate proofs faster than existing systems to lower Starknet’s processing expenses.
“Stwo will bring new possibilities for scaling. And they’ll be available for everyone, given that it will be open-source from Day 1,” said StarkWare COO Oren Katz.
As an open-source prover, anyone can access Stwo’s codebase to build Stark-based platforms. Over time, Starknet and Starknet app chains will automatically benefit from Stwo’s reduced latency and costs, resulting in lower user fees.
ZK-proofs allow users to validate information without exposing underlying data, which is crucial for privacy and scaling. As the largest ZK rollup by total value locked at $1.33 billion, Starknet’s launch of Stwo signals a continued commitment to decentralized, efficient blockchain scaling solutions.
With Stwo’s open-sourced nature, StarkWare envisions community collaboration accelerating the development of ZK-proof systems across chains. Lower costs and faster proofs could soon broadly drive the adoption of privacy-focused scaling across DeFi and crypto.
