Google’s AI chatbot, Gemini, will soon be restricted from answering questions about India’s upcoming general elections. The General Elections are starting next month, and this action is a preventive measure to avoid misinformation.
This move is in line with similar measures taken in the US and other nations that are having elections. In a blog post on Tuesday, Google stated, “We have begun to roll out restrictions on the types of election-related queries for which Gemini will return responses.”
Post added, “We take our responsibility for providing high-quality information for these types of queries seriously and are continuously working to improve our protections.”
Simultaneously, the company is working with the Indian Election Commission to make it simple for individuals to find essential voting information on Google Search, including how to register and cast a ballot in Hindi and English.
The Indian government has taken action to control disinformation and conspiracies about the publication of election results through artificial intelligence (AI) after voicing worries about them. The nation instructed tech companies last week to obtain permission before releasing any AI products.
The move coincides with the fact that elections are set to take place in more than 60 nations this year, including the US, UK, and South Africa.
