An investor has reported a shocking $150,000 drained from their accounts after downloading what appeared to be a legitimate Bitcoin wallet app from Apple’s App Store.
The victim, seeking to transfer their crypto holdings after switching from Android, made the fateful mistake of trusting the app ranking as the #1 search result for “bitcoin wallet.” Little did they know, this top listing was an insidious scam pulling the strings behind the scenes.
“I get that I’ve failed to vet the app,” lamented the user, “but honestly, how does a scam app become the #1 organic search result in the app store, topping binance, blockchain.com, and coinbase?”
The victim has continued to voice his outrage on X over Apple permitting such a fraudulent app to persist for over 12 days after initial reports of its malicious conduct.
