Aavegotchi, known for its tradable digital character NFTs, plans to debut Gotchichain, a specialized Layer 3 rollup, in Q2 2024. Gotchichain, initially built with Polygon’s tools, will specialize in blockchain gaming. It will utilize the Base as its settlement layer.
The Aavegotchi team plans to leverage Base’s infrastructure to offer an on-chain gaming platform called the “Gaming Console.” Additionally, the team may explore the use of the Optimism stack with Gotchichain to widen and scale its ecosystem further.
“The Aavegotchi Gaming Console, powered by Gotchichain and Base’s infrastructure, is set to offer open-source, onchain gaming like never before. We are delighted to deliver a powerful gaming experience to our users, powered by fast and scalable L2 technology,” said Coderdan, CEO of Pixelcraft Studios, the firm that developed the game.
The non-fungible tokens were launched on Jan 3rd, 2021, and deployed on the Polygon sidechain. Aavegotchi features non-fungible tokens (NFTs) that function as tradable digital characters. In the meantime, Gotchichain will act as a Layer 3 chain, which is the main chain on which Aavegotchi tokens will reside.
The business of rollups is such that many developers are able to run their Layer 3 transaction chains on top of Layer 2 networks, which take Ethereum transactions. Layer 3 chains like Optimism, Base, and Arbitrum offer reduced fees and dedicated block space for various uses, including gaming, microloans, contracts, voting, and more.
As the blockchain gaming industry continues to evolve, Aavegotchi’s Gotchichain stands as a testament to the increasing adoption of Layer 3 solutions, offering a scalable and efficient platform for on-chain gaming experiences.
