Worldwide financial innovation WisdomTree, Inc. has been awarded a charter to function as a limited-purpose trust corporation by the New York State Department of Financial Services (DFS) under the New York Banking Law.
The trust company charter denotes the capacity to introduce WisdomTree Prime in New York and offers the most prestigious authorization in the digital asset landscape to service consumers under heightened regulatory supervision.
The trust company charter permits WisdomTree to produce and exchange DFS-approved stablecoins, maintain stablecoin reserves, and provide fiduciary custody of digital assets, including digital wallet services, under the newly established WisdomTree Digital Trust business, LLC.
WisdomTree’s adoption of this charter places it in the elite group of digital asset trust companies, indicating its leadership role in the industry’s transition to financial services enabled via blockchain technology.
Jonathan Steinberg, WisdomTree Founder and CEO, said, “The New York State Department of Financial Services is the premier regulator for businesses that engage in digital asset activity. This well-established trust company charter program – which long predates digital assets – is based on bank-grade regulation, allowing us to offer products that capitalize on innovation without sacrificing customer protection.”
As a component of the WisdomTree Prime ecosystem, WisdomTree Digital Trust Company will initially offer goods to clients. WisdomTree Digital Trust Company will issue Gold and Dollar Tokens on WisdomTree Prime, backed by DFS-approved reserves.
Additionally, WisdomTree will be able to provide WisdomTree Prime, which is scheduled to launch in the upcoming weeks, to retail consumers in New York thanks to this charter.
WisdomTree Prime integrates saving, spending, and investing into one ecosystem, putting the consumer’s financial activities on the blockchain. The trust firm can provide its clients with better protections, including asset safety, thanks to its fiduciary powers and trust charter.
In the future, WisdomTree also intends to provide institutions and commercial clients with goods and services through the WisdomTree Digital Trust Company.
