Munchables, a GameFi application, has successfully reclaimed $62.8 million worth of Ether following a breach by one of its developers. The hack, reported on March 26, resulted in a significant loss of over 17,400 ETH, triggering immediate action from the company to trace and recover the stolen funds.
In the early hours of March 27, Munchables disclosed that the hacker was identified as a former developer within the company. Following eight hours of negotiation, the individual agreed to return the stolen assets without any demand for a ransom, marking a swift response to an internal security crisis.
Munchables issued a statement confirming the recovery of the stolen Ethereum. Pacman, the creator of the Ethereum layer-2 blockchain Blast, publicly acknowledged ZachXBT’s support in the matter, highlighting the collaborative effort to resolve the situation.
The company has also cautioned the victims of the hack, urging them to rely solely on official communications to avoid becoming trapped by refund scams. This incident serves as a stark reminder of the security vulnerabilities in the digital finance arena and the importance of rigorous oversight and internal trust within cryptocurrency organizations.
