One California judge, Vince Chhabria, announced the dismissal of a lawsuit claiming Apple has violated antitrust laws because of the company’s app store policies.
The lawsuit, which was filed on behalf of Venmo and CashApp money transfer app users, pointed out that Apple’s rules were limiting because they failed to offer features that alternative apps provided, such as the integration of cryptocurrency transactions.
The judge ruled that the cause of action had to be dismissed due to a lack of facts needed to substantiate it, as Apple had not suppressed cryptocurrency functionalities. He also suggested that although the plaintiffs did not specify which of the two apps they had used, it appeared to be Zelle, otherwise a very popular money transfer platform.
While the judge dismissed the case, the complainants were given 21 days to amend their complaints. Conversely, the judge’s final words reflected disbelief that there were any possibilities to remedy the case’s shortcomings.
