Prominent blockchain sleuth ZachXBT has joined as the fourth custodian for a multi-sig wallet holding $63 million in hacked user funds from GameFi protocol Munchables.
Munchables developers announced ZachXBT’s onboarding, alongside custodians Manifold Trading, Selini Capital, and Munchables itself, ensuring the safe return of user funds. Nethermind will audit refreshed contracts before the platform goes live again.
All users’ assets have been recovered, with refunds directly to their wallets post-exploit. ZachXBT confirmed his temporary role in the multi-sig, emphasizing a short-term commitment and rotation of signers as per team announcements.
Developers hinted at “massive multiples on game rewards” for depositors, along with plans for NFT migration and new features upon re-release. Custodians and assisting users will receive ETH and future MUNCH donations.
Munchables faced a $63 million exploit on March 26, linked to a hired North Korean developer, “Werewolves0943,” who breached private wallets. ZachXBT’s post-mortem revealed the exploiter’s impersonation of Munchables team members, leading to the return of private keys and funds access.
Quoting Confucius, developers emphasized seizing opportunities as the platform prepares for its relaunch on Blast, Ethereum’s layer-2 network.
