ZachXBT, the blockchain expert, states that the IRS Criminal Investigation Unit is secretly trying to pressure him to assist in ongoing blockchain matters. ZachXBT notes that an average IRS agent has gone even to the extent of tracking old addresses and reaching out to him through email and his original email accounts that have been in place, which he says are invading his privacy.
Such allegations were raised after the CEO of ZachXBT was reported not to help the Complex (SIMPLE) meme coin holders, who had threatened to shut down on April 4.
He expressed a desire to assist those proficient in meme coins while also protecting victims of real investing. However, the Internal Revenue Service has formed partnerships aimed at enhancing blockchain tracing.
Jim Lee, head of the IRS’ Criminal Investigations civil unit, clarified the unit’s involvement in investigating crypto-related crimes following their partnership with blockchain firm Chainalysis in May 2023. Lee noted the significant impact of the joint operations, stating that the IRS-CI has seized approximately $10 billion in cryptocurrency since shifting focus to the field.
