Clearstream, a subsidiary of Deutsche Börse Group, will be participating in European Central Bank (ECB) trials for digital euro wholesale central bank digital currency (CBDC). Clearstream, operating the D7 post-trade platform, stands as the sole central securities depository (CSD) involved in the initial phase of ECB preparatory trials.
This collaboration plans to test parts of distributed ledger technology (DLT) for wholesale transactions involving tokenized securities. The testing will take place from May to November this year, using actual central bank money.
Clearstream’s expansion of its D7 digital securities infrastructure in collaboration with Google Cloud shows its dedication to connecting with major digital payment solutions within the Eurosystem. The trials will involve euro-denominated issuances and delivery-versus-payment (DvP) transactions across various use cases and payment models.
Moreover, Clearstream’s involvement in SWIFT experiments with CBDC and tokenized assets in 2022 underscores its proactive approach toward embracing emerging technologies in the financial sector.
