Security firm, CertiK has exposed a major vulnerability on the desktop app version of Telegram, which provides room for hackers to run malicious codes on users’ computers. This a “high-risk vulnerability,” as the document of CertiK calls it on the post the shared on X, can be an opinion for sending a query made by image or a video file.
Telegram, however, disputes the claim. Their official Telegram channel argues there’s no vulnerability and suggests the report might be false. This isn’t the first disagreement between the two parties. In October 2023, CertiK warned users about potential scams involving Telegram bot tokens.
Unlike Telegram, the problem is not underestimated as it already has had a lot of similar issues. It was in 2021, when researchers found a vulnerability permitting the intruders to send dangerous stickers that had the possibility of opening up the users’ media files. Togetherness made the app vulnerable, or the mobile app versions.
