Apple Inc. has plans to refresh its Mac lineup with the new M4 processors, which will be developed in-house as the company tries to spark sluggish sales and catch up in artificial intelligence (AI).
This redesign is part of Apple’s plan to revitalize the Mac line which fell 27% last fiscal year. The new chips aim to strengthen AI features, which is in line with Apple’s strategy of integrating AI throughout its product lines.
Expected late this year, the updated lineup includes new iMacs, a 14-inch MacBook Pro, and high-end 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pros, all featuring the M4 chip. Apple plans further M4 releases in 2025, including updates to the MacBook Air, Mac Studio, and Mac Pro.
The M4 lineup includes entry-level Donan, powerful Brava, and top-end Hidra processors, emphasizing AI processing capabilities. Apple also contemplates enhancing Mac Pro memory capacity to half a terabyte.
Apple’s move towards in-house chips, part of its Apple Silicon initiative, aims for better hardware-software integration. The upcoming macOS version, likely announced in June, will showcase these AI-driven enhancements.
This strategic shift underscores Apple’s commitment to innovation and performance, aligning with market trends towards AI-centric computing.
