After sitting idle for more than a decade, a wallet connected to a Bitcoin miner from the earliest days of the cryptocurrency has suddenly become active again. This wallet, which has been untouched since April 2010, just moved an incredible $3 million worth of Bitcoin.
Nobody knows who owns this wallet yet, but this unexpected activity has set the crypto world buzzing with speculation. Some think it might be linked to Satoshi Nakamoto, the mysterious creator of Bitcoin. Others suggest it’s a case of someone finding lost keys to their Bitcoin stash.
On April 15, 2024, at 12:26:08, transaction ID 2896-bf4c transferred 50 BTC worth $3,310,765 from wallet 15sx-mKgb to 2 outputs, with a transaction fee of 22,000 sats or $14.57.
This movement came after a long period of dormancy, hinting at a sudden activation of a wallet associated with early Bitcoin mining.Â
A similar event took place on October 25, 2020, involving the transfer of a tiny fraction of Bitcoin, 0.00000547 BTC worth $0.36, with a considerably higher transaction fee of 278,200 sats or $184.22.
Going further back to April 23, 2010, records the transfer of 50 BTC from a block reward to wallet 15sx-mKgb, with no transaction fee, marking the initial activity of this wallet.
These transactions underscore the resurgence of dormant Bitcoin wallets and the intrigue surrounding their sudden reactivation, prompting speculation within the cryptocurrency community.
