The TOKEN2049 crypto conference in Dubai, renowned for its global prestige, has encountered significant disruption due to a heavy storm that has inundated both the event venue and the surrounding city, which is planned to run until April 21.
Despite its distinguished lineup of speakers, including Peter McCormack, Vitalik Buterin, and Dovey Wan, attendees are now grappling with the aftermath of severe weather conditions.
The UAE has been hit hard, with flights grounded and authorities cautioning residents to remain indoors until Wednesday, as the National Centre of Meteorology forecasts ongoing hazardous weather.
Footage shared by visitors depicts the aftermath of the storm in Dubai, showing flooded streets and submerged cars. Some users humorously remarked on the situation, with one quipping, “Come to Dubai, huge liquidity pool 🌊,” while another mentioned “GM Dubai, surfing over to TOKEN2049.”
A conference attendee also captured footage of the event and provided updates on his Twitter stating the event “got liquidated.”
The event organizers clarified about the event stating that “Entry and exit to Dubai is unaffected and TOKEN2049 Dubai will proceed as scheduled.”
The organizers of the event also conducted a poll today, inquiring about attendees’ transportation plans. Surprisingly, the ‘boat’ option is currently leading with 40% of the votes.
Despite the recent weather challenges, the organizers assure participants of dry and sunny conditions during the scheduled event.
