IIT Bombay and Blockchain for Impact (BFI) have forged a strategic alliance to drive game-changing initiatives and completely overhaul India’s public health system in response to the nation’s pressing healthcare issues.
The burdensome healthcare system in India is facing increasing challenges due to the country’s vast population and diverse public health issues. It is anticipated that the partnership will take on these issues head-on and promote medical innovation and research for the benefit of millions of Indians.
The partnership between BFI and IIT Bombay is beneficial to both organizations’ missions. BFI aims to improve the healthcare ecosystem by increasing universal access to medical services and necessities, while IIT Bombay is known for its cutting-edge research and product development.
Prof. Subhasis Chaudhuri, Director of IIT Bombay, highlighted the partnership’s significance by saying, “IIT Bombay has always been at the forefront of innovation and this collaboration exemplifies our commitment to leveraging cutting-edge research to address pressing societal challenges.”
He added, “By joining forces with Blockchain for Impact, we aim to accelerate the development and deployment of healthcare innovations that have the potential to transform public health outcomes in India and beyond.”
BFI plans to invest $900k in IIT Bombay over 3 years for healthcare tech. This is part of the $15m BFI-Biome initiative aiming to advance biomedical research and innovation, uniting top researchers, technologists, and innovators to tackle health challenges.
The BFI-Biome program funds translational research projects that have the potential to transform and improve healthcare solutions through partnerships with esteemed organizations like FNDR, TCG CREST, BITS Pilani, Venture Center, AIC-CCMB, SIIC IIT Kanpur, IISc, and others.
“By working with IIT Bombay, we have the opportunity to advance healthcare innovations that can positively impact public health on a massive scale,” stated Sandeep Nailwal, the founder of BFI.
He added, “Together, we can support groundbreaking research projects and bring transformative solutions to communities across India and the Global South.”
