A simple note saying “Buy Bitcoin,” once seen behind former Federal Reserve Chair Janet Yellen, is now sparking a bidding war online. The current bid is nearly $140,000! This note gained fame when it appeared during Yellen’s Congressional testimony nearly seven years ago.
When Christian Langalis, a 22-year-old intern at the Cato Institute and a big Bitcoin fan, left a written message at a hearing, it caused quite a stir. Even though he got escorted out, his message is now up for auction, and bids are soaring to nearly $140,000 (that’s 2.2 BTC).
It’s listed as an “Ink Drawing on Legal Pad” on Scarce City, a marketplace where you can buy crypto-related stuff using Bitcoin. The top bid, 2.2 BTC, is from someone with the alias @bitpaintclub.
The auction winner will be revealed tomorrow, April 24, at a Bitcoin-themed restaurant in New York, where Langalis works. Imagine owning a rare physical Bitcoin artifact in a world dominated by virtual currency.
