A fake letter, purportedly composed by Senator Elizabeth Warren proposing a 1% wealth tax on crypto holdings above $500,000 managed to dupe some crypto investors.
The letter requested President Joe Biden’s support for Senator Warren’s “crypto-themed bills” as they sought to improve the American financial system. However, no such letter was found in Warren’s official sources at that time.
However, she has been known to be anti-crypto. She sees cryptocurrencies as criminal devices due to their association with illegal activities including terrorism financing. Critics, those who are Democrats and crypto advocates, claim that her proposed legislation called the Digital Asset Anti-Money Laundering Act is not enough in terms of curtailing money laundering.
This silence from Warren and the lack of any response from her office reflect heightened tensions and an urgent need for skepticism amidst the deluge of misinformation in the crypto space.
