Optimism has established security updates to Layer-2 testnet and Offchain Labs, in which all the vulnerabilities were discovered. These issues, which could allow unauthorized editing of the blockchain’s history, were fixed in an update on April 25th after a worldwide organization informed a group of security researchers.
Offchain Labs, a competing solution in the Layer 2 space, uncovered two serious flaws in Optimism’s testnet on the March 22 ceremony. Such a limitation would allow hackers to either make the owner accept the wrong history chain or prevent recognition. Volume was kept confidential to allow Optimism to have enough time to work on the problem without the risk of being exposed.
After the report, Optimism implemented a timer-handling code following the report as part of their protection against future exploits. The update seeks to further develop the security of its networks and prevent the failure of attacks such as censorship attacks and traitor attacks.
