The FBI recently reported a significant level of investment scams in cryptos especially in the Houston area where victims are deceived into fake digital currency ventures. Federal agents caution the public about disguised criminal websites selling fake cryptocurrencies.
According to the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), these schemes include creating an elaborate but fake website that is filled with detailed and seemingly credible information. Scammers are using email, phone calls, and social media as a primary way of contacting targets who are assured first to provide a few dollars until bigger sums are asked.
In one of the popular approaches, scammers present fake apps and websites that falsely indicate yield, siphoning larger and larger sums until all the victim’s savings are gone.
Federal agents stress the importance of educating people to recognize and ignore these schemes promptly, urging them to report any suspicious activity. In 2022 there was no mercy for people living in the U.S. for criminals deceived them and stole billions of dollars.
Texas state recorded $300 million lost money. The FBI advises people to report any complaints to their office as these financial crimes are dealt with by the agents who specialize in such violations.
