$68 million worth of stolen cryptocurrencies has been recovered by Match Systems. A prominent crypto investor was targeted during the hack that took place on May 3rd, where a total of 1,155 Bitcoin tokens were stolen at a market price of $69.3 million.
According to Chainwire, the anonymous victim initially tried negotiating with the bandits by offering them 10% as a reward if they returned the funds but got no response. The victim then hired Match Systems to track and recover the stolen cryptocurrency.
Match Systems’ skilled investigators carefully followed the trail left by the hackers as they tried to cover up the origin of the stolen money through complex transactions. It took them one week to finally catch up with these hackers and reclaim the money for its rightful owner.
While the full details are kept secret, the sudden change in the thieves’ behavior from silence to wanting to communicate has puzzled crypto watchers.
Match Systems advises victims of similar robberies to report quickly, as chances of getting money back drop significantly over time.
