Microsoft could face a penalty of not more than 1% of its annual revenue, if it does not reply to the EU’s request for information by May 27. This transference, for the Digital Services Act (DSA), aims to identify the challenges that may arise as a result of Bing’s generative AI components.
Utilizing the findings, the EU Commission attempts to assess safety issues derived from Bing’s AI, such as hallucinations, deepfakes, and automated service manipulation. The risks around fake news and online propaganda are huge, especially regarding the possibility of manipulating and distorting the truth in the political landscape.
Microsoft will face fines if it defies the EU’s provision that it cannot use ads for products or services during the term of deals. Additionally, the organization may be fined up to 5% of its revenue for providing incomplete or false information.
Bing decided to follow DSA rules after the EU Competition Commission labeled it as an Online Search Engine.
