In a recent post, Dadvan Yousuf, a 23-year-old Iraqi-born crypto investor successfully displayed at the peak of Mount Everest the iconic orange-flagged Bitcoin on May 20th.
After weeks of acclimatization and climbing at high altitudes, Yousuf has reached the highest point on earth which is the summit of Mt Everest and he triumphantly unveiled the flag with Bitcoin’s logo at an elevation of 8849 meters. He also shared this significant moment with his colleagues when surrounded by Sherpas.
“On the roof of the world with #Bitcoin! On Monday, May 20, 2024, at 14:50 (NPT) I reached the summit of Mount Everest and hoisted the Bitcoin flag.” Yousef tweeted
In his post, Yousuf also placed a Kurdistan flag next to a Bitcoin symbol at the top as another means to remind people about ethnic pride and economic independence.
According to him, the journey took him 50 days while reaching beyond his limits as he reflected; ‘I fell down the Hillary step twice and almost died several times. During the expedition, I almost lost my fingers due to frostbite. I owe a lot to my sherpas who helped me.”
With a reported net worth exceeding $300 million as of January 2022 after early investments in Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies, the Dubai-based businessman viewed his Everest summit as a way to leverage his success to raise awareness about global financial literacy gaps.
Yousuf took to Twitter to share his monumental achievement, posting photos from the peak with the Bitcoin flag boldly on display. “A symbol of freedom and independence, even in the highest places on earth,” he tweeted triumphantly.
