Aptos, a blockchain platform invented by former Facebook employees, has set a new record for the most number of daily transactions on any blockchain network.
On May 25th, Aptos processed an astonishingly high total of 115.4 million transactions in a single day whereas Solana did only about 31.7 million.
On this particular occasion, Aptos surpassed its own previous records to push the record for layer-1 blockchains held by Sui Network over halfway. At peak performance, users were able to execute up to 32,000 tps (transactions per second).
The surge in activity is attributed to Tapos Cat, a newly launched tap-to-earn game that became very popular among users almost instantly. In fact, during its first day on Aptos mainnet alone, this game brought about 10 million worth of transaction volume into the ecosystem.
Even with such large numbers of transactions happening at once, fee rates remained low, and the transaction success rate was still positive due to its innovative “Aggregator” technology, which effectively meshed many individual payments together.
Is Tapos Cat simply a trick to artificially boost Aptos metrics through taps? However, this is a significant test for scalability, which shows how well Aptos will perform on other projects on a massive scale in the future.
