Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, has threatened to ban Apple products from his companies following Apple’s integration of OpenAI technology into its operating systems. Musk also insisted that this integration is a severe security issue that “should not be accepted”.
He published his comments on X where he complained about Apple’s decision and doubted the capacity of the company to ensure the safety of user’s data.
In a series of tweets, Musk stated that if Apple integrates OpenAI at the OS level, Apple devices will be prohibited at Tesla and SpaceX due to security concerns. He said that integrating the two could lead to privacy and security problems, stressing that any visitor to his companies would be asked to leave their Apple devices in the reception.
In response to Musk’s comments, Apple clarified that their integration with OpenAI is optional and that they continue to use their own proprietary AI technology. They emphasized that users will have the choice to share their information with OpenAI’s ChatGPT and that their requests and information will not be logged without permission.
Co-founder Elon Musk, who resigned from OpenAI’s board in 2018, has expressed frustration with its current management. His legal battle with OpenAI is based on the violation of their initial agreement where Musk sued OpenAI and its head Sam Altman for going against the agreed path. Recently, Musk invested in xAI, a company that may become an OpenAI competitor.
