Drake, a Canadian artist, is on the verge of losing $1 million in cryptocurrency after placing two separate $500,000 bets on the Edmonton Oilers and Dallas Mavericks to win the Stanley Cup and NBA finals.
The Oilers have lost three consecutive Stanley Cup playoff games against the Florida Panthers, and the Mavericks are down 3-0 in the NBA finals against the Boston Celtics, making a comeback increasingly unlikely.
On June 6, Drake announced via Instagram that he placed his bets on the crypto casino Stake using bitcoin (BTC). He accompanied the announcement with betting slips, stating, “Dallas because I’m a Texan. The Oilers are self-explanatory. Picks are in @stake.”
Despite Drake’s previous connection with Stake, which may have affected his public revelation of the bets, the results are questionable. If both teams fail to overcome their present deficits, Drake will lose $1.025 million from the Mavericks wager and $1.375 million from the Oilers bet.
The singer, known for his involvement in the sports betting scene, notably lost $615,000 in Bitcoin earlier this year when his bet on Francis Ngannou to defeat Anthony Joshua in a boxing match did not pay off.
With critical games approaching for both teams, Drake awaits the conclusion of these bets, knowing that both the Oilers and Mavericks must defy the odds to extend their respective series and salvage his significant wagers.
