Anthropic has launched the Claude 3.5 Sonnet, the latest advancement in their Claude 3.5 model family. This cutting-edge AI model sets new standards for intelligence and efficiency, surpassing previous iterations and competitor models.
Available for free on Claude.ai and the Claude iOS app, Claude 3.5 Sonnet also offers expanded access to Claude Pro and Team plan subscribers with significantly higher rate limits.
Additionally, it can be accessed via the Anthropic API, Amazon Bedrock, and Google Cloud’s Vertex AI, priced at $3 per million input tokens and $15 per million output tokens, featuring a 200K token context window.
Claude 3.5 Sonnet excels in a range of evaluations, from graduate-level reasoning and undergraduate-level knowledge to coding proficiency. It demonstrates remarkable improvements in understanding nuance, humor, and complex instructions.
The model is particularly adept at writing high-quality content with a natural, relatable tone, making it ideal for context-sensitive customer support and multi-step workflow orchestration.
In internal evaluations, Claude 3.5 Sonnet outperformed its predecessor, Claude 3 Opus, solving 64% of coding problems compared to Opus’s 38%. This evaluation included tasks such as fixing bugs and adding functionalities to open-source codebases based on natural language descriptions.
Claude 3.5 Sonnet’s ability to independently write, edit, and execute code with sophisticated reasoning and troubleshooting capabilities positions it as a powerful tool for updating legacy applications and migrating codebases.
The model also boasts enhanced visual reasoning capabilities, outperforming Claude 3 Opus in standard vision benchmarks. Claude 3.5 Sonnet excels at tasks requiring visual interpretation, such as reading charts and transcribing text from imperfect images, benefiting industries like retail, logistics, and financial services.
Anthropic introduces a new feature called Artifacts on Claude.ai, enabling users to generate and interact with content like code snippets and text documents in a dedicated workspace. This feature marks a significant step towards transforming Claude from a conversational AI into a collaborative work environment.
Anthropic remains committed to safety and privacy, engaging external experts to test and refine the model’s safety mechanisms. The Claude 3.5 model family will soon be expanded with the releases of Claude 3.5 Haiku and Claude 3.5 Opus later this year.
