LayerZero Foundation, the organization that supports the cross-chain interoperability platform LayerZero, announced that the claims for the airdrop of its native token ZRO are live.
Claims for ZRO tokens went live today, June 20 at 11:00 am UTC and will run until September 20. Eligible users can claim tokens from multiple chains, including Ethereum, Arbitrum, and Polygon, among others.
The claim process requires a LayerZero message, except for Arbitrum, which will process claims directly. ZRO can be transferred between chains via Stargate once claimed.
However, LayerZero Foundation, identified an issue with certain wallets receiving an unfair distribution of funds. In response, they reworked the distribution and are urging users to check their current $ZRO allocation.
Proof-of-Donation
Moreover, LayerZero has launched a new claiming mechanism called Proof-of-Donation, which aims to donate approximately $18.5 million to Protocol Guild. Protocol Guild supports Ethereum developers and has been crucial to LayerZero’s success. The donation aligns LayerZero with the broader crypto ecosystem’s future.
To claim ZRO tokens, users must donate $0.10 in USDC, USDT, or native ETH per ZRO. These donations go directly to Protocol Guild, which will receive the funds vested over four years. The LayerZero Foundation is matching donations up to $10 million.
Combatting Airdrop Issues
LayerZero’s Proof-of-Donation mechanism addresses issues faced by traditional airdrops, such as Sybil attacks and airdrop farming, which have undermined long-term protocol success. LayerZero ensures that recipients are genuinely interested in the project’s future by requiring a donation.
This innovative approach by LayerZero highlights a commitment to sustainable growth and developer support within the crypto ecosystem. By integrating donations into the claiming process, LayerZero fosters long-term engagement and alignment with its protocol.
