The Ethereum Community Conference (EthCC) started on July 8 in Brussels, gathering developers, researchers, and crypto enthusiasts to discuss Ethereum and DeFi evolution.

The Founder and CEO of Aave, Stani Kulechov, opened the morning discussions by highlighting how Web3 social platforms and DeFi aim to return power to communities. Kulechov emphasized that DeFi represents a transparent, borderless economy that transcends geographical and socio-economic barriers.
Kulechov stated, “DeFi is in its nature a transparent, borderless economy so it allows you the possibility to transact no matter your background. It has grown significantly and it’s here to stay.”
The first day also saw the launch of the 1inch Developer Portal by 1inch Labs. This new portal offers Web3 developers efficient RPC blockchain interactions without the need to run their own nodes, making development more accessible and streamlined.
Lily Liu, co-founder of Operation Masks, discusses the emergence of PayFi, realizing crypto’s original vision since 2009. The industry is now focused on proliferating essential use cases, marking a return to simplicity and utility in crypto technology.
The Ethereum Name Service (ENS) relaunched its website with a refreshed brand aesthetic, powered by the Thorin design system. While the application remains unchanged, the new look aims to enhance user experience.
Raffi Sapire, COO of the Uniswap Foundation, addressed the challenges faced by researchers in the DeFi space. Sapire stressed the need for collaboration across different chains and protocols to drive innovation and scalability. “Collaboration is key for researchers to move their research forward and progress the DeFi space,” Sapire remarked.
