Former United States President Donald Trump is organizing a $15 million fundraiser for his reelection campaign, leveraging his appearance at an upcoming Bitcoin conference, in Nashville. The event is being spearheaded by David Bailey, CEO of Bitcoin Magazine.
According to a July 15 report from The Washington Post, this event is expected after Trump’s official nomination as the Republican presidential candidate at the upcoming Republican National Convention.
Amid increasing political unrest in the US, the Republican National Convention and Bitcoin Conference will host prominent conservatives, business leaders, and legislators. On July 13, during a rally in Pennsylvania, 20-year-old Republican Thomas Matthew Crooks attempted to assassinate former President Donald Trump.
Before the attempted assassination, Trump had made his participation at the crypto conference known, but he later clarified that he would still be speaking. In May, the former US president was found guilty on 34 counts of felonies related to fabricating company records.
That conviction, however, might be called into question by a ruling rendered in July by the conservative-led Supreme Court. At the time of publishing, Trump’s sentencing was scheduled for September—just a few weeks before the US election.
Trump called Bitcoin a “scam” and denounced cryptocurrencies as “not money” while in government from 2017 to 2021. But after declaring his bid for reelection in 2024, he changed his mind, promising to take cryptocurrency contributions and encourage homegrown Bitcoin mining. At the Republican National Convention on July 15, Trump is anticipated to reveal his choice for vice president.
Uncertainties remain regarding the names that will appear on the ballots in 2024, with 113 days until the US election. Donald Trump may be subject to civil lawsuits and jail imprisonment.
After a June 27 debate, Democratic strategists and lawmakers suggest President Biden consider stepping down for potential candidates like Vice President Kamala Harris, citing Biden’s age, 81 years old, potentially serving until 85 if reelected, as historically significant.
