Amid the catastrophic global IT outage following Cowdstrike malfunction, affecting various sectors, reports suggest that numerous meme tokens based on CrowdStrike and the popular Microsoft “Blue Screen of Death” (BSoD) error were issued on the Ethereum and Solana blockchains. Out of these memecoins, CrowdStrike token (STRIKE) reached to $1 million marketcap.
DEXTools data shows that tokens referring to CrowdStrike, Microsoft, bluescreen of death, and BSoD were issued on the different Blockchains.
Surprisingly, tokens like CrowdStrike on Ethereum have gained liquidity of up to $50,000 worth of stablecoins, quickly reaching market capitalizations of as much as $1 million.
These tokens are actively traded as investors hope to gain profit from the short-term hype and speculation on social media platforms about the Microsoft outage. Note that these tokens are not listed on any centralized exchanges, and the tokens’ value will eventually go down after the hype fades away.
The global IT outage has severely impacted numerous sectors and businesses, such as airlines, hospitals, the stock market, banks, and the IT sector. According to Microsoft, numerous services, including PowerBI, Microsoft Fabric, Microsoft Teams, Microsoft 365 admin center, Microsoft Purview, and Viva Engage, were affected.
Some reports attribute the outage to a faulty update from CrowdStrike software. The global outage was reportedly linked to an issue with CrowdStrike, an antivirus software company. Bugs in CrowdStrike’s kernel driver caused widespread disruptions, leading to sudden crashes of Windows computers. Microsoft is actively addressing the situation, and CrowdStrike has confirmed it is not a cyberattack or hack.
