Vice President Kamala Harris is reportedly eyeing Michigan Senator Gary Peters as a potential running mate for the 2024 presidential election, according to Axios’s report
This strategic move, driven by strong support from labor unions, aims to boost Harris’s appeal in the crucial battleground state of Michigan. Peters, who is actively seeking backing from fellow Democrats, could bring significant electoral advantages to Harris’s appeal in the state of Michigan
However, Peters’s stance on cryptocurrencies adds a layer of complexity to the potential partnership. The senator has been a fierce critic of digital assets, underscored by his co-sponsorship of the Digital Asset Money Laundering Act of 2023.
This legislation targets the use of crypto in terrorism financing. Additionally, Peters supported the repeal of SAB-121, which would have forced banks to record digital assets as liabilities.
Despite the growing importance of cryptocurrencies in national discussions, Kamala Harris has remained notably reserved about her future policies on the issue.
While some, like entrepreneur Mark Cuban, suggest that Harris might be more open to innovation than her current public profile suggests, others, such as Riot Platforms CEO Jason Les, remain skeptical about any substantial shifts from the Biden administration’s existing policies.
Congressional Democrats have also urged Harris to reconsider the party’s current approach and engage more constructively with the digital asset industry.
