August is emerging as a challenging month for the cryptocurrency market, with historical data indicating a trend of declining activity and values. Analysts from Coinbase, David Duong and David Han, underscore the seasonality impact on crypto, noting a decrease in trading volumes and liquidity during this period.
According to the latest Coinbase Weekly report, Bitcoin spot volumes experienced a significant drop of 19% in August 2023 when compared to June of the same year. Similarly, Bitcoin futures volumes plummeted by 30% across global centralized exchanges.
“Bitcoin averages a decline of 2.8% during this month over the last five years. Lower liquidity and trading volumes can lead to increased volatility,” the analysts explained.
Market Dynamics: A Closer Look at Trading Patterns
The subdued performance isn’t confined to August. Data from Coinglass points to September as historically the worst month for Bitcoin returns, with an average drop of -4.78%. This pattern suggests that late summer may consistently dampen market sentiments.
Moreover, Jag Kooner, Head of Derivatives at Bitfinex, shared insights on current market conditions. “We are currently observing significant buy walls being established at range lows on several altcoins. Additionally, we anticipate the Bitcoin price to oscillate between $61,000 to $70,000, creating a potential accumulation zone,” said Kooner.
Strategies for Seasonal Market Trends
As Bitcoin’s price hovers around $62,885.57, showing a 0.2% rise from the previous day, investors are encouraged to maintain a keen watch. The predictable seasonal patterns highlight the critical need for well-thought-out investment strategies and a deep appreciation for the recurring cycles within the cryptocurrency market.
The expected decline during the season serves as a prompt for investors and traders to exercise caution, carefully planning their moves to navigate the probable volatility while seizing potential advantages during these usually less active trading periods.
