MetaMask, the leading Ethereum wallet, has launched the pilot program for its new cryptocurrency payment card, the MetaMask Card powered by Mastercard and the fintech platform Baanx.
This digital-only card allows users in the European Union and the United Kingdom to spend their cryptocurrency directly from their MetaMask wallet for everyday purchases wherever Mastercard is accepted.
Lorenzo Santos, Senior Product Manager at Consensys, emphasizes that the MetaMask Card pilot offers users more freedom to spend their crypto, bridging the gap between blockchain and real-world commerce. He sees it as a pivotal step in integrating the benefits of digital and fiat currencies seamlessly.
Simon Jones, Chief Commercial Officer at Baanx, expresses excitement about partnering with MetaMask, a leading web3 wallet, to drive a financial revolution by empowering users to act as their bank.
The MetaMask Card works like a debit card in contrast to conventional prepaid crypto cards, which need money sent to a third party before use. As a result, users may spend cryptocurrency straight from their MetaMask wallet and keep complete control over their money up to the point of payment. WETH, USDC, and USDT are among the cryptocurrencies supported on the Linea network at launch.
There are just a few thousand customers in the trial program at this time, but there are plans to expand geographically. To set up their MetaMask Card via the Crypto Life platform, qualified individuals should look for a “Card” tab in their MetaMask Portfolio. Those who are not yet qualified can register to get notifications when the card is made accessible in their area.
With the ability to spend cryptocurrency directly and securely, the MetaMask Card is viewed as a quantum leap toward the acceptance of cryptocurrencies by the general public.
