Binance, the world’s largest cryptocurrency exchange, has taken a significant step towards enhancing its financial transparency by partnering with Grant Thornton Singapore.
This strategic collaboration sees the top UK accounting firm’s Singapore arm becoming Binance’s official accounting and tax advisor. The move underscores Binance’s commitment to regulatory compliance, particularly amidst ongoing scrutiny from global regulators.
Grant Thornton will provide Binance with advisory services on technical accounting, financial reporting, audit preparedness, and tax matters. This partnership is expected to bolster Binance’s financial governance, aligning its accounting practices with International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and preparing the exchange for future audits. The move is seen as a crucial step in building trust with regulators and investors alike.
Binance has previously worked with a significant accounting company. Previously, Proof-of-Reserve (PoR) reports were produced by Binance in collaboration with Mazars, a worldwide integrated auditing firm. But Mazars withdrew because of worries about how the public would perceive these findings.
The partnership is being announced at a moment when Binance is dealing with regulatory issues in several different jurisdictions. Notably, the conversation is on legal matters in Nigeria, involving the detention of a top executive for more than half a year.
Despite these challenges, Binance continues to expand its operations, recently making moves in South Africa’s derivatives market.
Kaiser Ng, Senior Vice President of Finance at Binance, underlined the significance of the collaboration, saying it will assist Binance in harmonizing with conventional financial business procedures, increasing the transparency of its operations and simplifying them for international authorities.
Chetan Hans of Grant Thornton also voiced excitement about the collaboration, emphasizing the company’s contribution to Binance’s increased openness and regulatory compliance.
It is anticipated that this collaboration with Grant Thornton Singapore would be crucial to preserving investor trust and guaranteeing Binance’s sustained prosperity in the dynamic cryptocurrency market.
