Meta has introduced a new AI tool called “Movie Gen” capable of generating 16-second videos with sound effects and music tracks, all from simple text instructions.
While there are other AI tools that can also generate video content, Meta claims Movie Gen creates better quality.
In a blog post, Meta shares that the AI can generate videos at 16 frames per second (FPS). For comparison, Hollywood movies are usually filmed at 24 FPS to get smooth, professional shots.
According to the team, “We compare our image generation model to state-of-the-art text-to-image models and observe that it performs competitively with recent approaches.”
Although 16 FPS is slightly lower, it is still a bit close to a professional level. The tool can generate completely new videos based on simple text prompts or modify existing videos and images by changing objects and backgrounds.
It can also create up to 45 seconds of audio to sync perfectly with the video. This means you can create a full audiovisual experience with just a few words.
However, Movie Gen is currently in the research phase, and not available to the public yet. The team also said that the AI is developed for research purposes only and more safety checks are needed to ensure it can’t be misused. The team plans to add safety filters to block inappropriate or harmful content.
