Scroll, a zero-knowledge rollup for Ethereum, announced the launch of its native token, SCR, today. The launch aims to reward people who have contributed to Scroll’s development and encourage more decentralized involvement in the future.
According to the press release, the token will be distributed in an airdrop to over 600 community contributors.
The first airdrop will allocate 7% of the total SCR supply to reward participants who engaged in on-chain activities, project builders, and global community organizers.
In addition, out of a total of 55 million SCR tokens (5.5% of the total supply) for the Community Drop, 40 million SCR will go to participants who earned 200 or more Marks by Oct 19, 2024
Also, 10 million SCR will be distributed as a Flat Boost for all eligible participants. Moreover, 5 million SCR will be allocated as an On-chain Bonus to those meeting specific criteria, such as supporting public goods initiatives.
Scroll is also rewarding projects built on Scroll with a total of 6,977,000 SCR tokens. This is particularly true for over 100 projects eligible based on their Total Value Locked (TVL).
For industry contributors, Scroll has set aside 1,150,000 SCR tokens to reward significant contributions to technical research and development. This includes 115 open-source contributors who will each receive 10,000 SCR tokens.
In addition, Scroll has also launched “Scroll Open,” a new reward program to support and reward innovation on its platform. The program offers grants, potentially worth up to $100 million, to encourage fast-growing and creative projects.
Scroll uses zero-knowledge technology, making it the fastest among rollups for finalizing transactions. This boosts both the security and connectivity of its platform, solidifying the token’s utility
Scroll’s co-founder Sandy Peng also added that “The launch of SCR is a significant milestone in realizing this vision, as it empowers our community with greater control and rewards their contributions”
