Meta Platforms is making strides in artificial intelligence by developing its own AI-driven search engine. This initiative aims to reduce the company’s reliance on existing search services like Google and Microsoft’s Bing.
According to The Information report, Meta’s new search engine will provide conversational answers through Meta AI, and the company’s chatbot will be integrated into popular platforms like WhatsApp, Instagram, and Facebook.Â
Meta has partnered with Reuters to enhance its capabilities, allowing its AI chatbot to access real-time news content. This feature launched for U.S. users on October 25, enabling users to ask questions about current events and receive accurate, timely responses.
A Meta spokesperson explained that this partnership is designed to improve user experience by delivering high-quality news content within the AI chatbot. This shift is notable, as Meta previously stepped back from news content on its platforms after various controversies.
As Meta forges ahead, OpenAI is facing changes of its own. Miles Brundage, a Senior Advisor at OpenAI, recently resigned after six years with the company. His departure comes amid a period of significant change, including the introduction of new AI models to enhance performance and address regulatory concerns.
With Meta’s new search engine, the competition in the AI search market heats up. Other tech giants like Google and Microsoft are also investing heavily in AI, aiming to create more intuitive search experiences for users.
