As Bitcoin reached unprecedented heights on Thursday, crossing the historic threshold of $100,000, social media site ‘X’ (formerly Twitter) was filled with speculations that its CEO Elon Musk has changed the “like” button to celebrate the event.
It is a well-known fact that Musk is himself pro-crypto and has promoted meme coin Doge on multiple occasions. On Thursday morning, as Bitcoin climbed the landmark figure of 100,000, several social media users posted updates on X claiming that the like button has been changed by tech mogul Musk to celebrate the occurrence.
Likewise, several X handles were seen sharing the unverified information even as Bitcoin started trending on the site.
The Crypto Times has found out that this claim is false and fake news, spread by users to gain engagement on X.
Even X users have debunked this lie multiple times through “community notes” last year.
The same fake news was spread on Twitter during the Contest of Miss Universe 2024 and during the US Presidential Elections that Elon Musk has changed the like button to show support for the winners of Miss Universe 2024 and to support Donald Trump during the time of US Elections.
But it was completely fake news the Miss Universe and US Elections had nothing to do with the X-like button. A closer look at these claims reveals there is a lack of official confirmation from X regarding any modifications to its like feature.
Even on Friday, several X users shared the fake news that Elon has changed the like button to celebrate the release of Pushpa 2 movie.
These misleading and fake viral posts suggest that they may simply be strategies to boost engagement on X rather than factual updates. The Crypto Times has found these claims to be 100% fake.
